Tribol is back with a “new home”

According to Adriano Tavares, the event’s driving force, this is “the big news” of this edition. “After 14 editions on the Codessais beach, and due to the requalification of the space, we had to find an alternative”.
“We have always had the support of the municipality and the choice of the new location was the result of an exchange of ideas”, he states, assuming that “of the options that were on the table, this seemed to us to be the one that best met the conditions”.
In order for the venue to host the tournament, some interventions were necessary, firstly removing the existing carpet to place sand there. Then, “two stands will be set up, and the one that is there has bathrooms”, says Adriano Tavares, assuming that “everything else is a structure that is usually also set up in Codessais”.
“We are missing the landscape surrounding the Corgo River and the swimming pools, it is true, but I believe that the centrality of the multipurpose area, the fact that it is a crossing point and there is also a children's playground next door could attract more people”, he confesses.
At the presentation of the 15th edition of the tournament, the Mayor of Vila Real highlighted that it was possible to turn the Multipurpose Stadium into a sandpit, during “a window of opportunity, due to the process of requalification of that space, taking advantage of the removal of the grass”.
The future Codessais Sports Complex will include a field for these beach sports, prepared and with adjusted dimensions and stands, the mayor said, however, this will only be completed within a year and a half to two years. Therefore, next year, Alexandre Favaios admits that another solution will have to be found.
The mayor considers that the Tribol tournament is “a tradition in the Vila Real summer”, and believes that “it is an event that is already a reference in the sports panorama, not only locally, but nationally”.
The event also has the collaboration of the Vila Real Parish Council, which according to Francisco Rocha “gives the city a lively atmosphere”. “Tribol is already a tradition in the city and it is also a future one”, highlighting the commitment “for this event to continue and expand when necessary”.
16 TEAMSAs in previous years, there is a pre-registration phase after which, “in accordance with the selection criteria, the admitted teams are contacted to confirm their participation by paying the registration fee”. According to Adriano Tavares, “we don’t have many on the waiting list”, revealing that “it’s hard for us to always leave someone out. This year we had one team on the waiting list”.
In total, 16 teams will participate, a number that has not changed in recent years, especially because “we do not have the conditions for more, as we are limited to one field for the three sports”, namely handball, volleyball and football. According to Adriano Tavares, "we have teams from the north and center of the country," noting that "we have repeat teams every year, which is good. It's a sign that they enjoy the event."
However, every year, the organization tries to renew the teams, so that “they are not always the same”. To this end, “the regulations state that the two teams that finish in last place in each edition cannot participate in the following year. This was the way we found to allow new teams to participate”.
In terms of godparents, Carlos Felisberto will sponsor football, Carlos Simão will sponsor volleyball and Gabriel Conceição will sponsor handball. And because he was part of the delegation of the national under-21 handball team, which was crowned world runner-up a few days ago, Adriano Tavares called on some of the players to be present at the event.
SOLIDARITY TRIBOLThe event is changing location, but it does not lose its charitable aspect, with this year's edition helping Refood in Vila Real. “Each team must deliver at least nine food items, one for each member, but they can give more”, says Adriano Tavares, adding that “the aim is for those who attend to also take home a food item”.
The activities will begin on Friday, with Tribol Kids, which aims to bring the youngest members of the three sports closer together. This year, the activity will feature children from the Professora Joca Study Center, among the 200 who will participate.
Tribol is a joint organization between the Vila Real Handball Association, the City Council and the Vila Real Parish Council.
